Trust & amānah

Your information is a trust. We treat it that way.

MAWADDAH is built for those serious about nikāḥ, not entertainment. That means we hold your information, your photos, and your family details to a higher standard than a typical app — and we keep contact between candidates firmly outside the platform, through the walī.

1. Profiles are private by default

  • · Profiles are never publicly browsable.
  • · Profiles are not searchable by other users.
  • · There is no profile catalogue, feed, or swipe deck.
  • · Photos are never indexed by search engines.
  • · Your data is never sold and never used for advertising.

2. Who can see what

  • · The public: nothing. Search engines see nothing.
  • · Other applicants: nothing — until a moderator approves a specific introduction. Then they see only the fields approved for that match.
  • · Moderators: only what is needed to review a specific application or match. Access is scoped and audit-logged.
  • · Walīs: what the applicant chooses to share with them.
  • · MAWADDAH staff: a very small vetted team, only for support and safety.

3. How moderators are selected

Every moderator submits a written application that includes gender, age range, location, masjid or community affiliation, references, and a signed confidentiality agreement. Applications are reviewed by senior staff. Approval is not automatic.

  • · References are contacted before approval.
  • · A confidentiality and conflict-of-interest agreement must be signed.
  • · Moderators are assigned by region, and by gender where appropriate.
  • · Sisters' profiles are handled with female moderator involvement wherever possible.
  • · Access is scoped — moderators only see what is needed for a specific case.
  • · Every moderator action is audit-logged.

4. Photos and sensitive fields

  • · Photos are optional.
  • · Photos are hidden by default and only released to a specific match recipient with your consent.
  • · Sensitive fields (detailed family background, health, etc.) are optional and applicant-controlled.
  • · Sensitive information is only released where strictly necessary for review or an approved introduction.

5. Contact happens with the walī — not in the app

MAWADDAH does not host messaging, voice, or video calls between candidates. After both sides accept a moderator-approved introduction, a Contact Walī button appears on the match page with three options — Call, WhatsApp, and SMS — pointing at the walī phone number the candidate provided. Conversations happen family-to-family, outside the platform. This keeps the process honourable and accountable.

6. Reporting misuse

You can report any of the following from the match page:

  • · False or misleading information.
  • · Dating-style or casual conduct.
  • · Harassment, pressure, or rudeness.
  • · Misuse of contact details obtained through MAWADDAH.
  • · Anything that contradicts the spirit of the platform.

7. What happens after a report

  • · The report is reviewed by a moderator, prioritised by severity.
  • · The accused account may be temporarily restricted while we investigate.
  • · Both sides may be asked for clarification.
  • · Verified abuse leads to suspension or permanent removal.
  • · Evidence is preserved where safety or legal obligations require it.
  • · Repeat offenders are permanently banned and, where appropriate, reported to their walī or local authorities.

8. Data deletion

You can request account deletion from your settings. Personal data is removed within a reasonable period, except where we are legally required to retain certain records — for example, audit logs of safety enforcement. See the privacy policy for retention details.

9. Honesty — what we do not promise

MAWADDAH facilitates introductions. We do not guarantee marriage, compatibility, the truthfulness of every detail an applicant submits, or successful outcomes. You remain responsible for your own verification, family consultation, istikhārah, and decision to proceed.

Sister-comfort policies

For sisters we make extra effort to ensure dignity and comfort: female moderators are prioritised for reviewing sister profiles, photos can be made walī-only, and the walī is treated as a first-class participant rather than an afterthought.
